Amen! Thanks for making that point! The “function” of the core muscles is primarily as stabilizers, not flexors/rotators. The core (abs) is better off strengthened by resisting movement in different planes of motion. So, yes… sit ups may suck, but so do crunches. Thanks for the comment, Zorflex!
