The key to gettin your abs to show is have strong abdominals and minimal body fat. i used vastmuscle (.com) workouts and have gotten great results.

Its like doing squats. Squats are a great exercise but if you have injuries that squats make worse you should avoid them.
People should never do an exercise the irritates injuries.

No… I broke my L5 vertebra 17 years ago (not during exercise) and was in a major car accident around 8 years ago. I’m a pretty good judge of which exercises can cause additional damage.
For hip flexors, you can do a single leg lift, either lying or standing, with additional resistance. However, using both legs simultaneously creates tremendous strain on the lumbar region. In fact, the only reason the abs contract is to counteract the contraindicated position.

Except that they attach to your lumbar vertebrae and that 80% of the population already suffers from back pain.
Training the hip flexors is smart, but lying double leg lifts is about the dumbest way to do it. Take it from somebody who broke his back… I should know.

There is nothing wrong with working your hip flexors at the same time, you need those muscles for anything that involves lifting your leg.
